Dave Gould bekommt 1935 als Academy Award ein
Zertifikat for Best Dance Direction (ein Award, der 1935–1937
ausgerichtet wird). Und zwar gemeinsam für die
Nummer I’ve Got a Feeling You’re Fooling aus Broadway
Melody of 1936 und für die Nummer Straw Hat
aus Folies Bergère.
Ebenfalls nominiert ist Hermes Pan mit The Piccolino
und Top Hat aus Top Hat. Und nominiert ist auch
Busby Berkeley – er mit den Tanznummern Lullaby of Broadway
und The Words Are in My Heart aus Golddiggers of 1935.
In einem Interview sagt Busby Berkeley
später: „Everyone expected I would receive an Oscar for it
(Lullaby of Broadway), but they gave it to someone
else. The Dance Directors section of the Academy were
so infuriated, that they gave me a big dinner at
the Trocadero. About 250 people attended with studio
brass and many of my pals who were dance

1936 ist wieder nichts. Den Oscar for Best Dance
Direction bekommt der Choreograph Seymour Felix – und

„Foxtrot“ ist die Telefunkenplatte beschriftet, aber den
„Foxtrot“ will der Big Apple gerade überwinden.
„A lively“, so The New Grove Dictionary of American Music,
New York 1986, „and strenuous circle dance, popular
between 1937 (the year it was observed in a nightclub of the
same name in Columbia, South Carolina) and the early
1940s. Of black-American origin, the dance was rearranged
by Arthur Murray into a ballroom favorite and frequently
performed to swing music, such as the arrangements of Tommy
Dorsey. The dance required a caller to signal step
changes, and it incorporated the most active dance steps
